Joondalup Learning Precinct

The Joondalup Learning Precinct (JLP) uses its collective influence and leadership to attract and participate in activity for mutual and community benefit in accordance with relevant member organisation protocols, governing acts and legislation. The Precinct is made up of the City of Joondalup and the three co-located education campuses of Edith Cowan University, North Metropolitan TAFE and the Western Australian Police Academy. Key focus areas include:

Collaboration

• To exploit strategic opportunities to attract resources to the region for the mutual benefit of all parties.
• To explore and support innovative projects that capitalise on the unique qualities of the JLP.

Advocacy

• To collectively influence government policy and priorities to advance partner imperatives.
• To undertake activities collectively and separately, that strengthen and promote Joondalup as a Learning City in order to attract research and investment, a skilled workforce, students, visitors and residents.

Resource sharing

• To share opportunities for workforce capability development.
• To share infrastructure and resources where practicable to increase capability and reduce costs.
• To share best practice in operations to provide opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness of member organisations.

The Precinct also has a mentoring program supported by the Joondalup Learning Precinct Board. A unique learning environment for enhancing vocational skills and expanding future opportunities.

JLP Partners

Edith Cowan University

Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a large, multi-campus institution serving communities in Western Australia and internationally. ECU has two metropolitan campuses at Joondalup and Mount Lawley, and also serves Western Australia’s South West region from a campus at Bunbury, 200km south of Perth. ECU has over 30,000 students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. More than 6,000 of these are international students, originating from more than 100 countries. ECU has developed innovative and practical courses across a wide range of disciplines and has a vibrant research culture with researchers and research partners, working at the cutting edge of their fields. ECU students can expect placement opportunities, fieldwork, practicums and networking activities as part of their studies. This approach has been rewarded with five-star ratings for teaching quality over the past eleven years, along with consistently high ratings for graduate satisfaction and generic skills as reported in the Good Universities Guide and reflected in the Commonwealth Government Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) website. ECU is also ranked in the top 5% of universities worldwide by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017-2018.

North Metropolitan TAFE

North Metropolitan TAFE is the established State Government provider of vocational education and training for the northern Perth region. The organisation originated from the merger of the former West Coast Institute of Training and Central Institute of Technology. This key change to Western Australia’s TAFE system will ultimately deliver new choices to students, industry and the community of Western Australia. North Metropolitan TAFE has campuses located across the greater north metropolitan region in; Balga, Clarkson, East Perth, Joondalup, Leederville, Midland, Mt Lawley, Nedlands and Northbridge. With approximately 1300 staff and over 350 full time courses, North Metropolitan TAFE delivers skilled graduates in occupational priority areas such as Community Services, Education, Hospitality, Business, Engineering, Building and Construction, Health Sciences and Creative Industries.

Western Australia Police Academy

The Western Australia Police Academy is a world-class training facility incorporating all that has been learned about effective policing training. The academy boasts state-of-the-art facilities such as a scenario-training village and court room where police officers can put classroom theory into practice with simulated real-life situations. The village features retail outlets, banking facilities, a fast food outlet, service station, housing and a police station. Modern on-site accommodation facilities and catering allows local, national and international guests the opportunity to maximise their learning environment. In addition to the training of police recruits, the academy also provides a wide range of both operational and management training to the broader workforce within the Western Australia Police. The world class facility attracts other government agencies, law enforcement, regulatory and emergency service organisation.

City of Joondalup
